Momentum, Inc. is proud to announce that they will be participating as a Mentor for the newly established, Commonwealth Mentor-Protégé Program (MPP). The MPP aims to support Small Diverse businesses (SDBs) and will match small businesses with prime contractors to better compete for state government contracts.

In 2015, the Governor of Pennsylvania signed into executive order a commitment to improve small diverse business participation in state government contracts. Along with the Governor of Pennsylvania, the Advisory on Diversity, Inclusion and Small Business Opportunities Council helped to recommend the first ever Mentor-Protégé Program. Momentum’s Vice President, Jennifer Oswald, has played an instrumental part in creating the MPP through the Advisory Council. As a result, the MPP will better develop SDBs’ capabilities to compete for government contracts.

The program will operate through the Department of General Services (DGS) Bureau of Diversity Inclusion and Small Business Opportunities (BDISBO), pairing suppliers/prime contractors with DGS-verified SDBs to provide developmental assistance and solicit/perform supplies and services procurement contracts and non-highway capital construction projects. To be considered as a participant, protégé and mentor companies must be registered suppliers and in good standing with the commonwealth. Mentor companies must also have served in a prime contractor role for a value of $300,000 over three years or more. Protégé companies must be a verified SDB through DGS and attend a DISBO workshop.

Momentum, Inc. is one out of four companies that will act as a Mentor to a small diverse business. The Mentor and Protégé will enter into an agreement that ranges from 6 months to 2 years and will develop any goals determined by the participants. The program is a great example of how to increase the chances for small diverse businesses to succeed and obtain state contracts.
